The Skoda Fabia is a great ambassador for the Czech car manufacturer here in Australia. At the moment Skoda has a relatively small piece of the market, and that may be set to change. As part of the Volkswagen Group, Skoda is not a small car manufacturer, and they are huge in western Europe. So, it’s encouraging to see that Skoda Australia is wasting no time in getting the new Fabia into our hands. Let’s take a look at the new Fabia and what we know about its Australian release date.
The Skoda Fabia 2018
Australian sales of the current Fabia have been encouraging for Skoda Australia. We must remember that our car market is squarely focussed on SUV, crossover SUV and wagon sales primarily. So, it’s nice to see good cars doing well in other car segments that are not in the motoring press as often. In Australia, many drivers still need excellent family cars that are not being used for soft roading at the weekends.
The New Skoda Fabia
Essentially, this is a hatch and wagon with a significant facelift that also has a fresh new trim and more tech on board. The 2019 Fabia will be getting its Australian launch in Q4, and although it’s not a brand new car, it has undergone an extensive refresh. Chief amongst these are a range of cosmetic touches, an upgraded interior trim, some new driver assistance tech and LED daytime running lights.
On the cosmetic front, we can see a brand new front grille, revised bumpers, and headlights and on the hatch only there is an option for 18” alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, there is a redesigned instrument cluster that uses higher quality materials. The overseas models will have a wide range of trim choices available including a microfibre option and a rather attractive two tone colour scheme. At this time it’s not clear which trims will be available for the Australian release.
The new Fabia also has one touch up and down functionality on all four of its windows. Every window can also be locked or opened by pressing a button on the key fob. Certain Fabia variants will also have new cabin illumination options on the central storage compartment. There are also three new driver assist systems on board; they are auto high beam LED headlights, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert.
