Draining the Previous Engine Coolant
It is essential to ready the car before draining the radiator. For this, the first step is to know how much coolant is required for the vehicle and if the vehicle is parked at the level ground or needs to be jacked up.
It is essential to let the car cool sufficiently before draining the radiator. The next step is to disconnect the battery and open the drain valve which is generally on the bottom of the radiator. It is quite a good idea to keep a bucket under the drain valve to catch the fluid that is drained from the heater.
After removing the liquid, it is essential to close the drain valve. Drain the coolant that is remaining in the engine in the same way.
The old coolant needs to be disposed of off in a proper way according to guidelines so that it does not inflict any harm to the environment.
Fill the New Coolant
The next step is to take open the radiator cap and place a funnel on the lid to pour fresh coolant in the empty reservoir. Fill the empty tank with brand new coolant that is bought from the market. Coolant capacity of the radiator depends on the model of the car and the type of car.
It is essential at this step to check for any leaks. The next step is to start the engine and move the heater control to the tropical setting. Then remove the funnel from the radiator and close the radiator using the radiator cap. This step has to be done while keeping the engine running.
Turn On the Heater Blow
The next step to be followed in this process is to turn on the heater blow which is inside the car. There should be warm air blowing at this point which is an indication there is no air inside the cooling system.
The vehicle needs to be running throughout this process, and at this stage, the thermostat opens, and the electric cooling fan within the vehicles blows air in and out of the system.
The cooling cycle is then completed, and it is essential to let the car cool down completely after this process.
Once the vehicle is on the road again, the coolant will start running through the system, and then the coolant level may be needed to be top off in a few days.
