Is there a person alive who doesn’t love cocktails? That’s right, probably not. Even though these are perhaps some of the most popular drinks people drink in cocktail bars, it’s not very often that people practice the making of certain cocktails at home. Whether it’s because of the many types of drinks they have to purchase in order to make one cocktail, or because of the fact that it can be a bit pricey, it doesn’t really matter – but there are certain cocktails that you simply have to know how to make. You never know when you’ll need this skill, and when the time comes, why not be the person who knows how to make an excellent cocktail? Take a look at the list below, and see for yourself how easy making these amazing cocktails is.
Not only is it one of the most popular cocktails in North America, margarita is also one of the easiest ones to make and definitely a recipe you have to know by heart. In order to make a good one, you will need ¾ ounces of lime juice (make sure it’s freshly squeezed if you want your margarita to be perfect), 1 ounce of Cointreau, triple sec or any orange liquor and 1 ½ ounce of blanco tequila. If you really want to make the best home-made margarita in the area, make sure to add a bit of kosher salt. Put all of the ingredients in a shaker with a lot of ice and shake. Once finished, pour the mixture in glasses (or jugs), add more ice and decorate with lime wheels. If you wish for a sweeter version, you can always add a bit of agave syrup.
One of the oldest cocktails in the world is by far the Old Fashioned. If you make it properly, it’s strong but not too strong, so make sure to use the right ingredients. The most important ingredient is the whisky, so know how to choose a good one. What you need to do is put sugar in a glass, douse with bitters and add just a couple of drops of water. Add the whisky of your choice, and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. To finalize, add a couple of large ice cubes and quickly stir for the drink to chill. If you want to, you can decorate the glass with an orange wheel or cherries.
It may not be very well-known, but the Hugo is one of the tastiest cocktails out there, and a huge hit in Europe at the moment. On the plus side, making this cocktail is a piece of cake. Seriously, you practically need only 4 ingredients that you probably already have at home. To start your cocktail, place a couple of ice cubes in a glass and add several leaves of mint. Using a pestle or your fingers, gently crush the mint. Next, you need a bottle of Prosecco, and the better the Prosecco, the better your Hugo will be. This is followed by the Elderflower concentrate, and the ratio of these two should be 3:1. At the end add a couple of freshly squeezed lemon drops, and there you go. You’ll definitely taste Italy and heaven at the same time!
Even though it might seem a bit more complicated to make than a margarita, mojito is also a cocktail that is both heavenly tasty and super easy to make. What you need is fresh lime juice (circa 2 tablespoons), the same amount of brown sugar (as it’s the best choice of sugar for a mojito), ¼ cup of white rum, and 2 tablespoons of club soda. Remember that this is the recipe for one glass of mojito, so multiply this by the number of people drinking. Of course, fresh mint leaves are a must, and you should use around 12 for the drink (tear them in half so they let some juice out), and circa 5 for decoration. Add a lot of crushed ice and there you go. Remember that the key to a good mojito is the right amount of mint, so don’t try to save on this. Get organic and fresh mint and your mojito is going to be top notch.
One of the best aperitifs out there is definitely the Negroni. For making this exquisite cocktail you’ll only need to mix 1 ½ ounces of sweet vermouth, the same amount of Campari and finally, the same amount of gin. Since gin will make or break your cocktail, make sure to use a high-quality one so that your Negroni turns out perfect. Once you finish, you can decorate your cocktail with a fresh orange.
There you go – extremely simple, right? So next time you organize a party at home, say goodbye to the regular types of drinks and make some of these cocktails. Not only will your guests love it, but you won’t be able to stop drinking them either!
