When there’s a special event coming up, and you are keen to host it right at your house, you would have a whole list of things to-do along with loads of thrill and excitement. Depending on space factors, you could either have a full-blown party with a hundred guests, or you’d have to be a little more considerate and keep your numbers down. There are a lot of things you will need to be particular about when it comes to a lunch or dinner party at home. Food, decor, and equipment are some of the mains.

Before you could think about the catering part, you’d need to make sure your furniture is in place. Your regular dining table can be used for the spread, but certainly not for dining. You’d also need to see that you have a seating arrangement with just enough chairs for all of your guests. If you don’t have enough, you could borrow or hire some for a day or two, and then use them returned post the party. If you’d like to keep things simple and opt for a buffet, seating arrangements would be pretty much the only concern you’d have because the caterers would take care of the layout and serving business. But, if you are throwing a ‘proper’ party with many guests, you’d need both tables and chairs to lay out in your garden perhaps, with neat and clean covers for all of them.
Once you’ve sorted out your furniture, you would need to focus on putting together some dinnerware, which would include plates, dishes, glasses, and forks and spoons. As far as a buffet is concerned, you’d only need to see that you have enough plates, glassware and forks and spoons, because the rest would be taken care of by the caterers. But, if your spread is going to be of authentic home-made dishes and snacks, you would need to make sure you’ve got all that you need for laying them out and serving them to the guests. In addition to that, you would obviously make sure you have enough napkins, table covers, and the entire sort cleaned and ready for use.
Deciding on a menu of food and drinks for your event completely depends on what kind of party you are throwing. For a dinner party, you could have a combination of dishes like pizzas, pastas, spaghetti and lasagne with a few options for sides and starters. For a tea party, on the other hand, you could opt for light snacks like sandwiches, pizzas and pies, kebabs, salads, and plenty more. Sometimes, you might opt for a BBQ for which you’d have meat and salads along with some bread and anything else of your choice. BBQ’s could be a lot more fun and involves outdoor activity with bonfires, music and chit chat.
Ambience & Décor
Although it’s something that’s likely to slip your mind, you need to give importance to creating the right atmosphere to make sure your guests are comfortable, especially if they are bringing along their kids. You may need to consider lighting, air-condition, and everything else that helps create the right ambience and a pleasing atmosphere.
Decor, again, would depend on the type of your event and its purpose. Lights, candles, balloons and banners are some of them that are generally used for all kinds of occasions. You could incorporate a couple of more interesting ideas if it’s an outdoor event.
Organizing and planning an even at your house involves hard work and would require a few hands. The foremost thing however, is to write up a checklist in order of priority, and make sure you have enough of everything, or even some extras, just to be on the safe side!
