The outdoor poster giants are rapidly replacing their traditional static sites with high quality digital screens for a very good reason-they attract much more attention and thus command significantly more revenue per site.
When it comes to LED screens, with prices dropping and quality improving every year, the enhanced, high-definition is becoming appealing to advertisers who are increasing booking digital space as opposed to traditional posters and even newspapers, magazines, radio and TV advertising.
Big screen displays are rapidly becoming the norm in today’s business world. Following are some of the major benefits of a big screen display:
Display Characteristics: Manufacturers treat their large screen displays in much the same way as car manufacturers treat their full-size sedans. The features that would be optional on smaller screens often come standard on larger ones. The screens 20 inches or larger, as a standard, often include better stands, brighter back lighting, higher contrast ratios and faster refresh rates. Screen manufacturers include the best display characteristics on their top-of-the-line models. Typically, the top-of-the-line models are also their largest.
Viewable Area: The image produced on a screen is made of pixels. The manufacturers try to maintain a certain number of pixels-per-inch (ppi or dpi). This allows for a certain amount of uniformity when developing a new screen. Since the displayed ppi of screens remains the same, larger screen displays more pixels. For example, a screen capable of producing 72 ppi and displaying a picture that is 1,440 pixels wide would need 20 inches of horizontal space to display the full picture. Screens with a horizontal dimension of anything less would not be able to display the entire picture at once. Pictures are not the only area where this is applicable. Full high-definition (HD) television is recorded at 1,920 pixels in the horizontal dimensions. Any screen incapable of producing 1,920 horizontal pixels is incapable of displaying the full picture without resizing.
Prices have dropped: Another one of the great benefits of a big screen display is the fact that prices have dropped drastically. Like all technology, large screen displays have been on the market for a few years now and therefore their price bracket has dropped to be affordable.
As computer technology improves, so does the technology for screen displays. Advances in displays give better color reproduction, enhanced refresh rates, increased resolution and larger physical size. As production methods improve, these advances become cheaper to incorporate into production-model screen displays, and the reduction in price transfers to consumer.
