TVS is one of the most renowned names when it comes to two wheelers. The Apache series from TVS has been around in the market for a while now and has received huge success. But the current market demands are signaling towards higher capacity motorbikes. TVS also has always loved to manufacture sub 200cc motorcycle with the very purpose of making it as fast as they can. These two are probably the reasons why they have recently come up with latest model in the Apache series, which they have named the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V. Is this the best Apache ever and can it match the fierce competition from its rivals? Let us have a review of this new beast from TVS to find out the answer of these questions.
The Looks and Design
The bike is a beautiful beast which comes with the Draken concept, which TVS showcased in previous bikes as well. The design is fluidic and clean, giving the bike a much sporty look. The engine cowl is quite large and the headlamps now come with DRLs. The engine cowls besides the new headlamps with DRLs, giving the bike a proper street fighter look. The panels as well as the switches on the handlebar feel quite sturdy and add to the overall look as well. The rear design is even better with split seats, high rising tail, smaller tail lamps with full LED units and a well designed grab rail along with a double-barrel exhaust. Engine, Gearbox and Chassis
TVS has a designed a whole new 198cc engine, adding some essentially great features to it. Firstly, they have given it an oil-cooling with RAM air assist in order to keep the engine temperature down at high speed. The bike is available in two engine options. The first option is Carburettor engine while the other option is the Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) engine. The engines work at 19.7 horsepower/15.09 kW torque and 20.7 horsepower/15.46 kW torque respectively. There is a great 5-speed gearbox as well with it which handles transmission duties quite superbly to say the least. The chassis comes with a Split Cradle design, making the bike extremely comfortable for doing knee-downs or taking U-Turns.
It comes with a fully digital console alongside the speedometer and tachometer, a trip-meter as well as odometer. The unit is trapezoidal-shaped. There is a red indicator for the redline. It also has high-quality switch gear and buffed levers to add to its looks.
Suspension, Tires and Brakes
The TVS Apache RTR 200 has a great suspension. It comes with 37mm Kayaba (KYB) forks at the front and also uses a monoshock unit. The TVS Apache RTR 200 comes with two tyre options, one being Remora compound tires and the other being Pirelli tires, with the Sport Demon model at front and Angel GT model at back. To handle braking duties, a petal disc setup is provided both ends, that being 270mm at front and 240mm for back.
To sum it all up, we can’t say that the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V comes with an iconic instantly eye catching design. Nor we can say that the bike has a performance figure which is hugely impressive. But that can only be said on paper as the riding experience is completely different and overall much better. This is a fun machine which gives the rider a great feedback.
Whether you ride it on smooth city roads or highways or you drive it past busy, muddles or rocky streets, you are always going to enjoy the ride. It is around 15,000 INR more expensive than its 160cc twin but with that you get additional features such as Pirelli Tyres, ABS and Fuel Injection. Overall, it can get overwhelmed by its competitors but if you are looking for a bike to enjoy your rides and get value for money features, then look no further than the TVS Apache RTR 200.
