Broadbeach has been challenging Surfers Paradise as the jewel in the crown of the Gold Coast for some time. Now, with a multi-million-dollar makeover, prompted by next year’s Commonwealth Games, it is well and truly in the spotlight.
This only seems fitting when you consider that Broadbeach was the site of the area’s first hotel. It had been recognised as a town since 1934, but it was the opening of Lennons in the mid-1950s that really put it on the map.
At a cost of 500,000 pounds to build, this was a huge event. Especially when you consider that would be around $15.6 million at today’s prices!
Sophistication and Seaside Charm
So what is it that keeps holidaymakers coming back to Broadbeach every year? Could it be the mix of sophisticated accommodation and old fashioned seaside charm? Or perhaps the easy access to everything the Gold Coast has to offer?
A recent report says it’s the redeveloped pedestrian mall, with its myriad cafes, restaurants, shops and entertainment.
Whatever the reason, Broadbeach holiday accommodation continues to attract a cross-section of visitors, including families, couples and business travellers.
It could be because Broadbeach manages to provide Gold Coast luxury accommodation at an affordable price, with local resorts offering great deals on apartments. And not just in the low season.
Resorts such as the Phoenician Resort offer deals throughout the year, so it’s always worth checking out online offers.
Broadbeach holiday accommodation is great for families with its convenient location, pretty park, and safe, patrolled beach. It’s an ideal base for visiting the theme parks, too.
Couples love it because they can easily walk to cafes, restaurants and bars, or take in a show at Jupiters Casino. And for business folk, a resort such as the Phoenician is ideal, as it is just footsteps from the Gold Coast Convention Centre.
Accommodation in the area is mostly self-contained apartments, and these are ideal if travelling with family or friends. Couples love the privacy of luxurious one-bedroom apartments, with the beach right on the doorstep.
Events All Year Round
One thing that attracts thousands of people to the Gold Coast every year is the wide range of events. And Broadbeach is the venue for many of these, including the very popular Blues on Broadbeach festival, which takes place every May.
Kurrawa Park is a great venue, and is also used for the vibrant Sunday markets, where you can pick up amazing local arts and crafts.
If you love sport, the Gold Coast will suit you down to the ground, with major sporting events held year-round. Coming up soon is the Coates Hire Coolangatta Gold, Netfest 2017, the Tour de Valley and, at the end of November, the Australian PGA Championship.
Make It Your Own
For many, a holiday is simply for relaxing and, with the wonderful resort facilities available, that’s easy. You can laze by the pool with a good book, enjoy a spa or sauna, or get your fitness up to speed in the gym. It’s your holiday so do what you want!
Or, as the Gold Coast is home to some of Australia’s best surf beaches, book a few lessons and take to the waves.
