As we wave our final goodbyes to 2014, the first few months of 2015 often promise change, a new order, and a new dedication to ‘you’, like many promises made every other new year. It can be hard to stick to your promise, whether it is to lose a bit of weight, to eat fruit a little more often, or to work out at the gym a few times a week. However, with the right motivation and determination, you can make sure that this year’s New Year’s resolution sticks with you for good. So why not continue that good New Years exercise plans by joining a health club?
Sweat it out in a Steam Room and Sauna
Nothing beats finishing a long workout and then heading into the steam room or sauna to helpfully clean those pores out. The difference between a steam room and a sauna is that steam is a moist heat whereas saunas are dry heated and each of these features has its own health benefits.
Saunas are great for aiding muscle stimulation and have been known to improve cardiovascular health, whereas steam rooms are fantastic for clearing chest and sinus congestion.
Finish off your heavy workout with a professional massage. Most health clubs have expert masseurs who draw from years of experience in order to help stimulate the muscles in the right way, soothing aching muscles and also encouraging a quicker recovery from strenuous activity. Massages are also recommended if you strained yourself while exercising, or if an old muscle injury happens to start playing up while you work out.
As with any work out you will need to properly hydrate yourself both during and after exercise. Keeping hydrated after the workout has ended is potentially even more important than remaining hydrated throughout because your body is still trying to recover moisture lost from sweat. Try to avoid fizzy drinks as they actually tend to make you more dehydrated once the initial ‘refreshing’ feeling of drinking them has worn off.
Combine a Regular Workout with a Healthy Diet
As with any kind of exercise, if you want to go the whole hog, it is recommended that you combine regular workouts with a healthy eating plan. Try to eat small meals throughout the day on your workout days and make sure not to ‘reward yourself’ with food straight after a workout! You may end up with stomach pains and you will always ‘feel’ hungrier after hard exercise so you might end up doing more harm than good!
‘Reward yourself’ by sticking to your health plan, or try some tasty fruit or sweetened oats in order to replace the sugar lost from your body through exercise.
The gym and the pool are not for everyone and if you prefer working out elsewhere, even if it is just jogging or skipping, any kind of exercise is better than none. A health club is so much more than a gym or a pool; it is where you can go to relax after a hard workout, it helps you to prevent long term muscle damage with soothing aftercare and also helps you to reconnect with friends. So why not try it out for now, even if it is just for a little while?
