A wireless network is one that allows the connection of two or more computers to each other, without the use of cables. Below is a guide to configure a wireless network.
In this article we will show a series of 13 steps to connect a workstation to a wireless local area network, using the “Wi-Fi” protocol in English means “Wireless Fidelity”. This type of networks offer us great advantages for homes and businesses, since there is no need to install cables.
Wi-Fi, was published under the IEEE 802.11 standard, it has undergone updates, which work at different speeds. The wireless Local area networks, allows a great mobility to users, by allowing them to minimize cable connections, using radio frequency technology.
Characteristics of the Network
The reduction of the wiring, brings as a consequence that its installation is facilitated, decreasing the time. When using radio frequencies for communication, it allows us to connect areas to which we can not reach using wiring, either by cost or location. Not only this, it also allows the transmission in real time to users. allowing great possibilities of service and productivity. And if you have a huge premise to cover with the wireless network, you can go for the Linksys Extender Setup, this will eliminate the Wi-Fi dead spots in your house.
Step 1: Taskbar
Start looking for the network icon, which is in the task bar, there we can know if the machine has the network disconnected or has not been installed.
Step 2: Search the Network
When we find the icon, we right click on it and then we will get a textual menu, with several options, from which we must select “see available wireless networks”.
Step3: Choose Network
In the window of connections of wireless networks, we must select the option “choose a wireless network”. Then, we select the option “update list of networks” with this we can see the wireless networks to which we have access.
Step 4: Available Networks
After completing the third step, the window will appear as the following image indicating that you are searching for the available networks on your computer. So you can perform the following steps. It may take a while, but do not worry in this same window the result will appear.
Step 5: Data for configuration

Step 6: Key
When trying to connect to this wireless network, it asks for the network key to access it, we enter it and then select the “connect” button again.
Step 7: Connection Wizard
The connection wizard will try to connect to the selected network. It will be completed if the network key entered is correct.
Step 8: Connected Network
If the network has been successfully connected, the details of the connection will appear in the next window.
Step 9: Select State
We return to the task bar again doing step 2 and select the “state” again.
Step 10: Connection Speed
In the Status window of connections of wireless networks, it shows us the characteristics of the connection: status, network, duration, speed, signal strength.
Step 11: Properties
When selecting the properties button, the network adapter that is being used and the types of network components will appear in the same window.
In the tab “Wireless networks” we can define, if this connection that we create will connect automatically. Also, we can add new connections, remove, or view the properties.
