2020 marks the welcoming of another new year, a brand-new decade, and a whole host of new exhibitions opening across London. If you have even visited London you will know that the city is a hub of cultural and artistic significance, with everything from royal influence to modern artists leaving their mark on the city and its buildings. Just minutes from the Park Hotel Kensington lies Museum road, where the Natural History museum and the V&A welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors through their doors every year.
But what’s new in 2020 and what should we be looking out for?
The most well-known artists, both modern and historical, are still – and probably always will – celebrated with exhibits across the world, almost constantly. London in 2020 is no different, and if you snap up one of the special offers London hotels are offering for the new year, you’ll have plenty of time to check out the new ones opening in January. Visit the Royal Academy of Arts to enjoy the works and life of Picasso, with the gallery bringing together more than 300 works of art created by Picasso.
As the Picasso exhibit closes, Andy Warhol arrives at the Tate Modern – a popular museum which acknowledges the modern artists and their influences at a location just along from the Southbank.
Something abit different
If you’re looking for something abit different particularly something to appeal to the whole family, the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts exhibit at the House of MinaLima may just be the perfect place for you. Located just south of Oxford Street, not far from the classically cultural area of Kensington with its high-end hotels and eateries, the House of MinaLima offers visitors a peak into the movie props used in the Harry Potter films, as well as original and unique graphics and works of art created by the set designers.
Our top tip? Spend the afternoon at the Harry Potter exhibit before heading back to the Park Grand Restaurant for dinner, then hit the Natural History Museum in time for the evening entry.
The perfect date?
Whether you’re a new couple or have been together for years, London can be a hugely romantic place to spend some quality time together – with countless romantic hotel packages, dinner deals and unique date night ideas. One of our favourite ideas for a unique date day (or night) is to visit one of London’s galleries, and in 2020 the National Gallery will be welcoming the Artemisia exhibition from famous female painter Artemisia Gentileschi, at the same time as the V&A opens the Alice in Wonderland exhibit. Both displaying the works of great minds, Artemisia is perfect for lovers of realism and strong feminist works, while the Alice in Wonderland exhibit offers the ideal opportunity to embrace your inner child and simply enjoy a trip down the rabbit hole.
So, whatever your artistic preference, and no matter when you choose to visit London, the city is full of exhibits – many of which are refreshed and updated on a regular basis. What better way to spend a weekend away?
