Work experience is one of the most important points in a job application for many employers. Everyone was faced with this vicious circle: to get a good job in their specialty, you need work experience, and to get this very experience you need to get a job. But to despair in this situation and put a “cross” on the work of your dreams is not necessary. If there is a great desire to work and develop, it is possible to find a good job without work experience, although it is difficult.
Not so bad
It seems that people who have just left the walls of the university have a long and difficult search for their first job. In fact, the chances of successful employment without work experience are much greater than it seems. The well-known portal Superjob.ru conducted a study, the results of which turned out to be the following data: 66% of medium-sized companies and 85% of large companies are ready to hire a specialist without experience. Successful university graduates have a rather loyal attitude, however, they undergo a more thorough and long selection process that people with serious work experience behind them.
If we analyze the pages of the most popular HR portals and job search sites, it becomes clear: every year more and more vacancies appear with the note “you can without work experience”. Many employers are ready to teach the entire university graduate, who received excellent basic knowledge and turn it into a real specialist.
Start as early as possible
Practice shows that the vast majority of students begin to work even before graduation. Most often this is, of course, a part-time job, but it is often the case that in the last courses students have a full-time job as a cyber security analyst. And then, having received a long-awaited diploma, these people often stay at their place of work, but if not, then when searching for another job, there is already some experience. Hence the conclusion: you need to think about your career before getting a diploma. Students can be taken to assistants to a specialist, for work “running errands” or for some very simple tasks that are not carried out by a specialist. If such work is related to your specialty, or you just feel that this experience will help you in your future career – be sure to agree to such offers or look for them yourself. It is important to observe the optimal balance “study – work”.
Well, if you have already missed this moment and did not start worrying about your career, while still studying at a university, then you have no choice but to implement all other tips as effectively as possible.
Attend training and courses
Now you can find training and courses in almost any specialty. If you successfully complete several of these, this will give you an edge over other job applicants who also have no experience like you. Successful completion of courses or participation in training usually ends with the issuance of certificates or certificates from the company that organized them. Attach them to your resume, and you will already look a bit more presentable in the eyes of the employer. Moreover, attending training courses is a real opportunity to improve your professional skills and expand theoretical knowledge to practical ones.
Make a good resume
We will not refute the fact that the string “work experience” is one of the most important in the resume. And employers pay attention to it first of all. However, if there is no work experience yet, you can leave at the expense of other advantages. In the resume, indicate the maximum of your achievements and skills that you think may influence the decision of the employer. In addition to the mandatory items in the summary (personal information, education, etc.) fill in such lines as:
- personal qualities: sociability, purposefulness, focus on results, activity, etc .;
- your skills and abilities: knowledge of computer programs that are used in your field of activity, knowledge of any technologies or techniques, etc .;
- knowledge of foreign languages: specify the level of proficiency;
- availability of certificates, special diplomas, etc.
If the topic of your thesis is directly related to the content of the work for which you are applying, then specify it. The same applies to the place of practice. Indicate where you did the practice, what exactly they did and what they learned.
Responsible for the interview
Interviewing is always some kind of stress. Everybody is always worried before him. And if this is the first interview, the level of excitement triples. We have already written several articles about the interview. Read them and you will be prepared for such an important stage of getting your first job.
Engage all your connections
A large percentage of people find work by an acquaintance. This applies to both experienced professionals and yesterday’s graduates. Tell all your friends, relatives, acquaintances, acquaintances, that you are looking for a job. Actively participate in professional communities in social networks, make new acquaintances, find out which companies have interesting vacancies.
Do not belittle your achievements
As mentioned above, it often happens that specialists without experience immediately want to get the boss’s chair and a high salary. But quite often there are directly opposite situations when a graduate without experience is not sure how much of himself that he does not take into account his achievements and the skills already acquired. If you have successfully completed a university in the field of best tech support, it means that you already have some experience. You wrote a diploma, scientific work probably participated in any conferences or seminars. All this is also an experience, and it is impossible to downplay it. Confidently state all that you can, at the interview. The employer would rather give preference to the applicant without sufficient experience, but with adequate ambitions and a great desire to work than someone who says “I haven’t worked anywhere, I don’t know how much”.
