OK, so this might sound like a silly topic, given that in most cases, it’s quite easy to know when you have a pest infestation (I’m picturing that scene from the Mummy where that man is cradling the book of the dead, whilst a swarm of locusts tearing it’s way through their camp!) That said, sometimes, they can go undetected. Or at least, the infestation might be on a smaller scale, so you don’t notice until the infestation get’s out of control. In any case, we’re going to take you through a few things that might point towards having a pest loose in your home.
1 – Little black pellets on the floor
Unless you have a pet rabbit, if you keep finding little black pellets scattered around the floor (particularly in the kitchen), then it’s a clear sign that you have a rodent of some description in your home. In this case, you just as well call for professional assistance immediately. You could look for scratching on the walls and clumps of hair caught on the skirting, however, rodent droppings tend to be a clear enough sign.
2 – You can hear humming or scratching in the walls
If you can hear a low humming noise in the walls, then there could well be a wasp’s nest inside! Feel the walls and gauge the temperature. If it feels warmer than usual, then you should definitely call for help. Alternatively, you might hear scratching or squeaking. If that is the case, then it could be a couple of rats nesting inside the walls. Either way, it’s likely that you have a pest problem! Don’t try to tackle the situation on your own. It is not worth the risk!
3 – Bad odours
If you can smell a strong smell of a urine, be careful before you start blaming the dog (or your children). It could be a clear sign that you have a rodent pest infestation in your home. You will need to get rid of that pest or pet smell either way. But at this point, before jumping to conclusions, you should keep an eye out for any of the other signs (clawing in the walls, scratch marks and dark fluff on the skirting, any visible holes in the walls). If you’re confident you have a rat, call for help! They spread diseases so do not attempt to catch them on your own.
4 – Tiny holes in the wood
If you spot tiny holes in the wood around your home, then beware of termites. You can normally tell if you have termites as you can generally hear the chewing rather prominently. In any case, if you spot little holes, call for assistance. If left unchecked for too long, termites can significantly impact the structural integrity of your property!
Who you gonna call?
If you’ve spotted any of these signs, or even if you’re not so sure but you feel uncomfortable and a little paranoid…that’s right, you need to call the professionals. Find a reputable company like Expert Pest Control, and they’ll come and set your mind at ease. They can either confirm that you’re safe and it’s all in your head (at which point you may need to find a different kind of professional); or that you do indeed have an infestation, and they’ll talk you through how they plan to tackle the issue for you.
