One of my favorite parts of the change of seasons is watching the style of clothing and fashion trends change along with the weather. I love to see the new colors and patterns that pop up each year to reflect the cooler weather and crisper air. Watching the burst of new advertisements for all of the new styles for business casual, college campus wear, formal, or cocktail attire is like watching a stream of images that inspire some ideas for my own style. Whenever this time of year comes around, I feel like I want to get rid of all my clothing and start fresh. I always feel like my clothes are so outdated, even when they are just from last year. Despite the fact that I want a completely new wardrobe, I do not exactly have the funds to be buying all new items. Lucky for me I have come up with a few tips and tricks that will help me do a little bit of shopping and get creative with what I have to at least feel like I have a whole new wardrobe, without spending a crazy amount of money.
Evaluate What You Have
Although it may feel like all of your clothes are outdated and could never be worn again, you are probably being a little bit dramatic. I cannot tell you how many times I have had the pleasure of pairing something old with something new, or even with something old that I never would have thought of before, and all of the sudden it is like I have a whole new outfit. Not only will you find things that you forgot you had, but maybe you can get rid of some stuff to make room for the new items that you do end up buying.
Shop Discount or Last Season
One of the best ways to save money when you are shopping for a new seasonal wardrobe is to search for stores that have frequent sales, already discounted items, or last season’s designer styles. One of my favorite places to go for this kind of stuff is Nordstrom. They always carry the best styles from the most current designers. However, because they are last season, over stocked, or have some other reason for not being on sale at the original retailer, the store gets to sell these items at a discounted rate for all of us to enjoy! You can also look for second hand items to save money and get use out of something someone may not need anymore
Swap it Out for Something Better
A really great idea, and something you may not have thought of, is having a clothing swap. If you have never been to one before this could be a great time to host your own. All you have to do is invite your friends and ask each of them to bring one of more pieces of clothing. Everyone has a pile of stuff to give away, and is allowed to take home whatever they chose to keep from everyone else’s giveaways. It is a great way to get everyone together, give away some clothes, and gain some at the same time.
