Tree trimming is one of the most important aspects of caring for the trees on your property. If left unchecked, they can grow unruly and often a little too wild. This can often be the detriment to both the tree’s health, and how safe it is. The last thing you want is to leave a tree to grow diseased, or too not get enough sunlight due to dead or dying branches blocking the lower, healthier branches. As such, it’s important to have a trim now and again. Not only does this help to maintain and improve the aesthetic appeal of the tree, but future growth.
So, how do you know when your tree needs at trim? Read on for these tell-tale signs.
1 – Have a good look at the growth of the tree
Have a look at the way in which your tree is growing. If it is beginning to get a little out of control (i.e., invading certain areas which could cause safety issues) then it’s high time that you call the professionals out to come and have a look.
This is something that you should endeavour to do regularly. The reason being is that if you leave it too long, and the tree gets out of control then having it pruned appropriately might cause irreparable trauma to the tree. Whereas, having it trimmed regularly can reduce the stress on the tree and keep it as healthy as possible.
2 – Always look out for signs of disease
Removing infected areas on a diseased tree as soon as the issue arises is vital for keeping it alive and healthy. This is why you should always be on the lookout for signs of disease.
- Check for discolouration of leaves
- Leave prematurely falling (out of season)
- Look for fungal growth
- Blisters or spots on leaves
Keep a close eye on these symptoms and call your local arborist immediately. If you fail to do this and the disease spreads too far then you’ll need tree lopping services as opposed to trimming.
3 – Check for malformed branches
It’s easy to spot a malformed branch as they won’t look healthy or natural at all. These tend to be the most dangerous as they have poor structural integrity and pose a serious health & safety hazard.
4 – Always check your tree after heavy weather
Have you experienced a heavy storm in the last week or so? Then you should definitely check your tree for any serious damage. Hanging limbs can pose a potential threat to anyone walking underneath. The sooner you jump on this and get the professionals to safely trim your tree back, the better.
5 – Why not have your tree inspected professionals?
If you’re not entirely confident in what you’re looking for then why not hire the professionals to regularly inspect the trees on your property? This is a great way of staying on top of your tree care and ensuring that all problems are spotted and remedied as soon as they arise.
