College brings a lot of changes, and these changes are not only about your personal surroundings. One of the biggest transformations you’ll experience will be within yourself. Not to mention that your opportunities for socializing will be vastly different compared to what you were used to. Of course, dating is also something that will present itself in a different light. If you want some helpful advice on the matter, just keep on reading.
Take your time
If you’re single once you start college, don’t feel pressured into finding someone as soon as possible. A romantic relationship is great, and you’ll definitely get to enjoy it, but try to focus on yourself and things around you first. In that respect, maybe wait a couple of months before you actively start looking for a partner. There are just so many things to take in and explore, and you don’t want to miss all the opportunities for friendships and self-reflection by being too invested into your partner right from the start of your college life.
Don’t waste your time either
By taking your time to find a partner, you’ll also do yourself a favor in the sense that you’ll actually get to know people around you better. This applies to your potential partners as well. The fact that someone is handsome and attractive to you is not the only thing that qualifies them as a good romantic partner. Having the time to pay attention to them will also allow you to notice their behavior and personality. In case you’re already in a relationship, don’t waste your time either, if the two of you are not on the same page and you don’t feel happy. You have all the right to look for love, respect and attention in a relationship, and if all the talks don’t help, putting a stop to this is necessary for your own well-being.
Embrace your own self
College is definitely a time when you’ll get to explore your likes and dislikes, different fashion and beauty trends, music genres and so on. But these things, although important, are not crucial for defining you. It’s fun to explore, but do it on your own accord. There’s no need to follow trends because of others. Follow them because you want to. Have confidence in who you are. After all, if you’re wondering how to get a guy to notice you, you don’t want to be shy and insecure about your own self. There’s nothing more attractive than a girl who knows her worth and is not afraid of showing the world her unique personality.
Remember what college is for
Dating and partying is fun, and a great part of college. However, college is there to prepare you for real life. You’re there to learn and get qualifications for your future job. Never lose sight of that goal because of someone else, even if it’s someone you’re romantically involved with. This aspect has a lot to do with your search for a good partner. If they don’t value your time and don’t understand why you have to take a break from time to time, study and complete college-related tasks, you should question it all. You have to, especially if the person you’re with constantly tries to drag you away from your other responsibilities. This is not how two mature young adults approach dating and relationship.
Don’t lose yourself
This may be the most important tip of them all, so remember it well. Never change yourself for someone else. College life is tricky in the sense that you’re in a vulnerable age when you may feel a bit lost and confused about various things. This is normal. You will work things out gradually with your own power. So, don’t let anyone, and especially your romantic partner (or someone you have a crush on) shape who you are. It may seem fine at first, but you won’t like it in the long run. Not only can something like this ruin a relationship, but it can cause you a ton of stress and anxiety as well.
College is truly a wonderful time in your life. There are just so many things you can do and discover about yourself. You’ll meet some incredible people as well. And one of those people may turn out to be the love of your life. So don’t let yourself waste time and/or zone out from who you really are and what you want.
