A spray tan can be a great way to enjoy that healthy glow without increasing your risk of developing skin cancer or prematurely aging your skin. Unfortunately, there are some things that no one talks about spray tanning, and this lack of information could compromise the finished result.
Don’t Use a Sugar Scrub:
Although it is important to exfoliate your skin before your spray tan, you need to use the right product. You need to remove old skin cells in order to create an even base, but the oils in sugar scrubs can coat the skin and cause tanning products to streak. Using a sugar scrub could create a barrier on your skin, which means that the tanning solution will just come straight off your skin. A better idea is to use an exfoliating glove or mitt, just don’t apply any lotion afterward.
Don’t Shave at the Last Minute:
Shaving immediately before your Rockingham Spray Tanning appointment is another common way to inadvertently sabotage your finished look. Shaving creates a mild exfoliant effect that can expose new, extra sensitive skin cells. Unfortunately, the DHA pigment in the Spray Tanning Solution can react with these cells and cause irritation. So, if you want to have smooth skin, ensure that you limit shaving to at least twelve hours before your tanning appointment.
Choose a Well Ventilated Salon:
Inhaling spray tanning product is not for the safety conscious, so you need to ensure that your strategically choose your salon. Many salons are airy and have ventilation fans for the equipment. This means that any overspray is immediately sucked away. Check out the tanning area and if you can see tanning solution on the walls, or it generally looks dirty, there is a good chance that the salon is not only poorly maintained but also poorly ventilated.
Don’t Go OTT With the Body Butter:
Most tanning technicians will recommend moisturising your skin to ensure that the length of the tan is prolonged. Unfortunately, some products can work away at your tan, which causes it to fade at an accelerated rate. Body butter can be particularly effective at reducing your tan or any type of heavy lotion. Instead, choose a lightweight product and apply it gently.
Cell Turnover Will Fade Your Tan:
No matter how careful you are and what precautions you take, your tan will fade due to cell turnover. However, this rate is different for everyone. So, while your best friend may enjoy several days more of glowing tan, this may not be a result of the product. It could just be that her cells turnover at a slower rate. You can mitigate a fast cell turnover slightly by minimising the amount of moisture your skin is exposed to.
