You may think that if you are good at English, you don’t need any preparation. That’s a rookie mistake students tend to make. Not just for PTE, you need to study for any other English Proficiency Exam too. There are certain questions that might surprise you, while others just can’t be done without proper preparation.
There are three sections:
- Speaking & Writing
These sections altogether have 20 types of question. The number of questions can range from 70 to 91.
The most important thing is that the exam demands you to practice. Just reading about the pattern and questions won’t work. Mock Tests are a must.
The Things That Matter
So we have got two things covered: the slot & pattern. It’s time to get into the details. The tricky part about getting everything right lies in the basic rules of English.
With all these instructions and get your response right broadly, one can forget small things like using Captial Letters wisely, punctuations, etc. When we say these things matter, they really do matter. For example, in Essay Writing, if you write the whole essay correctly but in all CAPS, then you are going to end up with zero marks. This is because of partial credit in PTE system marks different types of questions differently. You won’t be marked any further if you score zero in content and form. This is valid for essay writing. Other questions might have a similar kind of scoring pattern. The moral of the story is to stick to the content and don’t forget the basics.
Another important factor is the technical aspect of PTE. Particularly during the speaking section, you have to take care of recording your response. Firstly, speak as soon as a microphone opens and don’t let it sit idle for more than three seconds. Otherwise, it will stop recording. You should also speak clear and loud into the microphone. Speak confidently or your heavy breathing can ruin your response. PTE requires you to perform the basic function of a computer so there is nothing to worry about. If you find any issue with your equipments immediately tell your administrator. Don’t muddle with the system.
THE PTE EXAM HALL
It’s finally time to give the exam. If you’ve prepared well then you must be going with confidence. Certainly, any kind of surprise in the exam can throw you off. Got to the PTE exam stress-free! We picture an exam hall as really silent but PTE academic exam hall isn’t really like that. You should know the exam hall consist of partition desks. The point of this information is that you can hear your co-test taker, especially during the speaking section. If you just concentrate on your response then you don’t have to worry about the noise. You can take a step further and practice in a busy environment to test your concentration skills.
Other then this it is like a typical exam hall. You’re not allowed to take any item inside. You’re also not allowed to talk to your co-test takers. These are the basic rules which you’ll be informed about in the test taker agreement when you sign in.
