Looking at a map of London, one could be forgiven for passing over Lancaster Gate without so much as a second glance. With so many iconic areas and landmarks of London surrounding the area, the hotels in Lancaster England can fade into the background a little, with Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens and the spectacular Kensington Palace taking centre stage.
But that’s what makes Lancaster Gate such a great place to stay during your family trip to London.
It’s close to some of the best parks in London
This one doesn’t need a great deal of explanation – Lancaster Gate borders one of the most famous parks in London, and where better place to spend a holiday with the family than right next to a beautiful green space full of walking paths, sports pitches and even a great lake that has pedalo’s on it? Hyde Park is one of the biggest parks in the city and offers everything you need for a family day out in the sunshine – or, access to the iconic Winter Wonderland if you visit in the winter months – so there really is something for everyone.
It’s surrounded by the best of London’s culture
We are big advocates for the diversity that is celebrated across London, and the areas just North of Hyde Park is no different. There are some brilliant restaurants near Lancaster Gate, but one of our favourite eating options – and one that is typically popular with lots of families – is the Pergola Paddington, situated just to the North of the Lancaster Gate area. Pergola Paddington celebrates the best of a range of cuisines and delicacies, serving them all up under one roof and allowing individuals in groups to choose exactly what they want, before coming together to eat as a family.
Kensington Palace and Kensington Gardens are also just minutes from Lancaster Gate, each boasting a history and cultural significance of their own. The ornate Albert memorial sits in Kensington Gardens, as well as the Serpentine Gallery which offers free entry all year, and the Peter Pan statue – a real favourite with children and adults of all ages, who know Peter Pan from the famous story books and Disney film.
It’s easy to get around to London’s best attractions
No matter how good the immediate area is, there are still those attractions dotted around London that you just can’t miss. From the Natural History Museum to the London Eye, Tower of London and Buckingham Palace gates, sometimes you just have to leave your Lancaster accommodation behind and head further afield for a day trip. Luckily, Lancaster Gate is perfectly positioned on the Central Line, giving easy and quick access across the very centre of London, allowing you to jump on the tube and go wherever you want.
If you visit in Summer, the close proximity of Lancaster Gate to the Royal parks means that getting around can be a real joy – and remember, you see a lot more when you travel by foot than you do on the underground.
