Valentine’s Day is often classed as highly commercial, over-celebrated and, quite frankly, a little over the top. And that’s why we love it! A great excuse for date night and copious amounts of chocolate and wine, Valentine’s Day is primarily celebrated by couples although has also been known as a great night to go out with the girls or the guys.
When Valentine’s Day rolls around, London is no different to the rest of the world as romantic hotel packages in London bombard the internet, email inboxes and social media. For those who do choose to spend 14th February in the city, what kinds of things are available and what are the best ways to celebrate?
Best ways to spend your morning
What’s the best way to spend a morning on your mini break holiday? Brunch of course, and with the Park Grand restaurant topping out as one of the best brunch locations in London, the options for some romance with your morning meal are endless.
Once full of food, our recommended activity for Valentine’s Day is a good old walk in the park; or if you and your loved one are more in the cultural elements of the city then you can always head for a stroll down The Mall.
If you’re more into formal activities and events, the Big London Bake is taking place from December onwards, including Valentine’s Day, where you can join various other couples in a 90-minute bake off style experience. A fun way to bond as a couple and celebrate your competitive streak!
A relaxing romantic afternoon
After all that walking or baking, you’ll probably be looking for a low key and relaxing way to spend your afternoon. And what better way to relax in London, than with a traditional British afternoon tea. With a plethora of eateries and restaurants offering afternoon tea across the city, you won’t be hard pressed to find a good scone and a dollop of jam- but for those after something a little different we have the perfect surprise. The Indian High Tea available in Kensington offers a unique and enjoyable fusion of a British classic and Indian flavours; all at a great price that still leaves you enough for the evening’s cocktails!
Valentine’s evening in the city
Whether you’ve opted for a high-end inner-city stay in the Park Grand London Kensington, or somewhere a little further afield, you’ll be wanting to head into London for the evening. After all, with bars and restaurants spilling over with romantic meal deals and prosecco treats, London really is the place for a great date night. Here are just a couple of our favourite spots for a night out with your loved one – or your mates!
The King’s Head in Shoreditch is a member’s club, offering the widest range of gin you can imagine and a burlesque show on the side. Super fun to enjoy with a group or just you and your partner, and totally unique as well.
Jazz bars! London is full of them, and does any other music genre really say romance like jazz does? Ronnie Scott’s is one of the best, ideally located right in Mayfair.
Last but not least, an old favourite – the cinema. Take an old date idea to the next level by looking into London’s array of pop-up cinemas and those show houses with sofas and a full meal brought to your seat. Relaxing, intimate, and something you might not do on an ordinary night out.
