Vampire Diaries was originally written by L.J Smith in 1991, when the vampire phenomenon had not yet left the sunny shores of New Orleans. It seems safe to say the new, aspiring writer didn’t expect such an immense fan base almost twenty years after the first novel was written. In fact no one anticipated after the sensational Twilight Saga, that the T.V series Vampire Diaries could become so popular.
Vampire Diaries started off very different to shows such as Twilight because it didn’t just focus on the Romeo-Juliette scenario: it included issues that affect the real world; adoption, domestic abuse, drug habits and lone parenting. These real life issues made the show not only a story about shockingly good looking vampires and their sex lives, but about real people with real stories and ultimately making it one of a kind. Not only did it do this, it also added depth to each character, emotions leapt out of our vampire diaries season 9 television sets; we found ourselves entranced by the magnitude of emotion.
Four seasons down the line has Vampire Diaries upheld its reputation? Every Tuesday night fans eagerly await the newest installment of this awesome show and sit through the arguably best forty minutes of the week. The show smoothly includes the struggles of the day to day life of teenagers, vampires, were-wolfs, and witches alike and each week there is a nail biting climax that leads flawlessly into the next episode keeping viewers glued to their televisions.
As the seasons have come and go, the sex has got hotter. (It’s what we want, right?) But when is enough, enough? When Matt and Rebekah are having a threesome with a random prostitute? What happened to the show that included real life issues?
Not to mention how many dopplegangers season five is churning out. Fair enough the Elena and Katherine doppleganger story line was great not to mention unique but Silas AND Stefan. Was I the only one who saw that one coming? Are the producers taking the perfect opportunity to save money but putting out half the characters to be played by the same actors? Seems a little frugal to me considering how much its raking in!
And unfortunate Damon! Damon’s just got the girl of his dreams only to find out Elena and Stefan are destined to be together as dopplegangers finding each other again. It’s all abit sickly sweet if you ask me.
Plus, am I the only one who thinks Elena deserves a slap? We all wanted ‘Delena’ but now she’s with Damon surely she should keep to him instead of out-rightly flirting with poor love-struck Stefan.
I love the Vampire Diaries and I won’t be deterred from watching it, but I’m sure I’m not alone when I say this season has been rather predictable and frankly, disappointing. I mean why kill Bonnie off only to bring her back. We all knew she was going to come back let’s face it.
Vampire Diaries is taking a well deserved break over the Christmas period (I’m rather disappointed too, but we want our two favourite vampire boys looking their best!) but will be returning early 2014 for the capricious (hopefully) second half.
