London is a pretty big city. And by big city, we mean it’s actually massive. There’s so much to see and do but one thing that you really need to do if you come to the capital of the UK, is to head to the Barbican Centre. It’s the home of performing arts, is housed in the City of London and gives you the chance to enjoy classical and contemporary music, art exhibitions, concerts, theatre shows and much more.
What is the Barbican?
We could go all the way back to the history and design of the iconic venue…but we don’t want to lose your interest! Suffice to say, the Barbican is home to art. And that’s despite the grey outwards appearance that has often seen it voted as “London’s ugliest building!”. But we all know that it’s what’s on the inside that counts. And inside is a concert hall like no other. In fact, there’s the Barbican Hall, the Theatre, the Pit, the Art Gallery, three cinema screens, the library, restaurants, conference halls and trade exhibition halls. Phew! But if you’re going to enjoy any of these, including attending a Meeting Room City of London, you can’t do worse than the Barbican.
So much more than a building
The Barbican in itself inspires art. That’s why you can expect artists of all different genres, from different countries, finding their spiritual home at the Barbican. And if they (or you) want somewhere nice to stay on your artistic trip, the Barbican Rooms Hotel is the best place to stay. From there you can enjoy luxury in the City of London and be a stone’s throw away from the Barbican. Then you can enjoy literature, music, theatre – basically anything to do with art. We’re surprised that when you look up art in the dictionary there’s not a picture of the Barbican!
The Barbican is great for the artists out there but it’s not just limited to that audience. If you love a bit of luxury then of course you’ll find the Spa Hotel London City amazing. But it’s not just the luxury of the hotel and the area around the Barbican, it’s the access you’ll have to the whole of London. You won’t be far away from a tube station (with Barbican and Moorgate in walking distance), let alone all the buses and famous black cabs. And London is definitely a city worth exploring but like with anything that’s so big, where do you start? The Barbican is one of the best places in our opinion. You’ll get to see what it’s like being in the City of London (it has its own mayor and its own police!), which is steeped in history. Down each road you’ll find monuments, parks and with each turn something new. You’ll even find a road called Little Britain (remember that show?) which is always a good chuckle. But after you’ve explored everything you want to see in London, you can always come back to the heart of luxury and culture at the Barbican.
