Lloyds Banking Group is a leading provider of finance and banking services in the UK. Though it was formed from the acquisition of HBOS by TSB in 2009, the bank has a history that dates back as far as the 1600s. The group has recorded major successes and this is largely down to the effort and commitment of the efficient team of staff and managers at Lloyds Banking Group. This article will show a brief exposition of a few of the key figures behind the largely successful operation of the Lloyds Banking Group.
Lord Blackwell – Chairman
Lord Blackwell joined the board in 2012 and is chairman of the Nomination & Governance Committee. He succeeded Sir Winfried as the Chairman and was the unanimous choice due to his vast experience in a broad range of industries ranging from insurance, banking, regulatory and public policy, among others.
Aside from being the Lloyds Group’s Chairman, he is also the Governor of the Yehudi Menuhin School and also holds a membership of the Royal Academy of Music’s Governing Body. Lord Blackwell has held several other establishments before becoming Lloyds’ Group Chairman. He has a Master of Arts Degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, Ph.D. in Finance & Economics along with an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania.
Antonio Osório – Group Chief Executive
Antonio Osorio joined Lloyds Banking Group Board in January 2011 and was appointed Group Chief Executive in March of the same year. Antonio has a robust experience in retail and commercial banking and had occupied several senior management positions in various other firms. Before joining the group, Antonio had worked for Goldman Sachs, Citibank, Grupo Santander and so many others. He was the Executive Vice President of Grupo Santander at a point.
Antonio, a popular Portuguese banker, is reputed for his ability to build and lead strong management teams. This, along with his drive, enthusiasm and total commitment to customers has made Lloyds Banking Group all the more valuable. He holds a degree in Management and Business Administration from the Universidade Catolica Portuguesa. Antonio is also an alumnus of INSEAD where he obtained his MBA. He has also studied at Harvard Business School where he completed an Advanced Management Program. He his happily married and together with his family resides in Chelsea, London.
Juan Colombas – Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer
Juan Colombas joined the Board of Lloyds Banking Group in November 2013. He has contributed immensely to the development of the bank with his 31 years of experience in banking and risk management. He served as the Chief Risk Officer from January 2011, a period where he oversaw the development of the Group’s risk framework. He began work as Chief Operating Officer on September 4, 2017, and is a member of the Executive Committee. He is known for his contributions to the transformation of the bank and for his leadership of various important Group functions targeted at realizing the bank’s goal of being the Bank of the Future.
Juan holds a BSc in Industrial Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid. He also has a Financial Management degree from ICADE School of Business and Economics.
Prior to joining Lloyds Banking Group, he was the Chief Risk Officer and Executive Director of Santander UK.
