The way we do yoga is a consistent implementation of ahimsa. This is not only not to attack our body ever, but attune to it, respect and love it. If there is discomfort or pain, you must stop. If you are tired, rest in a relaxation pose as often as necessary for the time your body requires. Advanced postures require many years of practice. Remember that you do not have to achieve perfection and have the benefits of full posture like others. Everybody is different and will respond in a particular way to a practice, so not all need the same poses. It is in our hands to measure which ones favor us. In addition, each day and moment of life, your body will feel different. Only you can know what feels good. Keep your attention on what you are doing, in every part of your body and do not disperse. Warm up before practice, ask if you have questions and express your fears and discomforts.
Appreciates the Process
Yoga is a path, never a goal. We start learning what we do not know and it is essential to accept the process of meeting with something new. Start at the beginning. Although it takes years of practice, never lose sight of the beauty of the process. Each posture is gained through practice, love and patience and received as a gift. Yoga is acceptance, patience and love. Always think that if you are practicing yoga, it is to do something good for you and has nothing to do with the achievements. Do not be hard on you or feel stupid if you cannot make a stand or if the teacher corrects you. On the contrary, the teacher helps you release the need to achieve and prove nothing. The measure of this that you are attuned to your body, its rhythms and its peculiarities. Having a loving and respectful relationship with ourselves is the first lesson we learn in yoga.
